Connected in three steps

1. Create API access in Personio

In Personio: Settings → Integrations → API accesses → New access. Permissions: read access to employees, employment, absences. 2 minutes.

2. Client ID + secret in /admin/integrationen

Copy values from Personio, enter them into the integrations form. On first save the secret is AES-256-encrypted in the background.

3. "Test connection" — and you're connected

We make an auth call against api.personio.de — on OK the integration is active. The wizard can now pull Personio master data.

Personio REST API v1

Direct access to personal master data, employment relationships, hiring/leaving dates and custom attributes. Native API, no workaround.

Bearer token lifecycle

Personio bearer tokens have a short lifespan — we refresh automatically in the background. You don't notice anything.

Custom attributes usable

If you maintain Personio-specific custom attributes (e.g. "role level"), these can be included in the wizard.

AES-256 encrypted

Client secret is encrypted with the industry standard and never returned to the browser — not even when editing.

Swiss hosting

Even though Personio is based in DE: ZeugnisPilot processes the pulled data in Switzerland. Order processing per DPA.

Read-only

We write nothing back to Personio. Your HR team retains sole authority over personnel master data.

Frequently asked questions

Which Personio plans are supported?

All plans with API access (Essentials, Professional, Enterprise). The free trial supports the API for testing purposes as well.

What permissions must the API access have?

Read access to: employees (master data + employment), optionally absences (for correct employment periods). NO write rights. NO payroll access.

What if Personio uses custom fields?

Standard fields (name, position, hiring, leaving, employment level) are mapped automatically. Custom fields can be configured per account — get in touch, we help with mapping.

Can I use Personio + bexio in parallel?

Yes. The data source is chosen per employee — Personio as HR master for personal master data, bexio e.g. only for company master data. In the wizard you see where each value comes from.

How does ZeugnisPilot handle former employees?

Personio retains former employees with status "inactive". They are made visible in the wizard and can still be used for references created later — also after departure.

How is DPA/GDPR handled?

We pull only fields necessary for the reference. Processing in Switzerland, DPA on request, Personio's own GDPR compliance is preserved — we are a pure data consumer.
